Kitchen Gadgets You'll Actually Need

3 years ago as I was planning my wedding from the comfort of my in-laws house at the age of 22 and had no clue what I would actually need to sustain a home. I ended up purchasing a glass topped dining table that is dirty 2 seconds after I clean it and I registered for a $200 + wine decanter that I absolutely love but never use. Well, I'm here to tell you, there are some "silly" things that I have now that are invaluable in the kitchen. Take it from me, you don't need the waffle maker, but you WILL need that salad spinner (boring, I know)!

kitchen Gadgets that you actually need

-Electric Tea Kettle-Perfect for boiling water to a specific temperature at the speed of               light!
-Garlic keeper-ensures you don't lose a bulb of garlic in the depths of your cabinet                  and start growing a tree in your kitchen.
-A food scale-the traditional way to measure baking ingredients and great for calorie                  counting.
-A bread knife-you'll use it for much more than bread!
-Assorted scoops-perfect for ice cream, cookie dough, and pancakes!
-A salad spinner-use it for drying salad (I've yet to fine another use-may also work                  for drying socks)!
-Assorted round "biscuit" cutters-these would have come in handy that time I tried to               make English muffins.
-All Out Of List-really helps jog your memory for what you intended to buy at the                    store and cuts down on those I-NEED-THESE-TOO purchases!
-Mini-sized measuring spoons-again would have been super helpful that time I tried to              make English muffins (Does anyone actually own a 1/8 measuring spoon?!)

Picnic

I have no logical reason for where this compulsion came from (surprise, surprise), but I really want to have a picnic. In truth, I'd like to have a picnic every Sunday from May 1 through Sept. 30th-but I doubt my husband is game on that plan (he hates putting on real pants on Sundays). There is something about the warmer, sunnier days that makes me want to pack up some food and just run away for a little while! Maybe a picnic in my backyard will suffice! I have a few items below that would really up the ante on any lawn based feast! What are some of your favorite foods to bring on the go?

Monday Must-Haves: Light Hearted

You may have seen here and here that I finally  purchased a dresser to house my jewelry, clutches,  and sunglasses. I could not be more excited to have another area in my home to style, and somehow I found this dresser for $36, which really opens up the budget for me to fill and style it.  My first  move will be to secure a luxe lamp much like the ones below to place atop it-really I plan on grabbing two, because I can't possibly have mis-matched lamps in my bedroom!

Washi Framing

Seriously though, how easy is this? I'm still working on our bedroom decor, (by working, I mean not doing a damn thing). So I saw this and thought it would be an easy, temporary way to update my bedroom. My husband isn't a huge fan of it (he actually hates it), and when I decide to be extra nice to him, I'll take it down.

He just said to me, "I don't think you should post that, it looks stupid".

Monday Must-Haves: Bake Ware Needed

It seems like I've spent the past 5 Sundays in the kitchen baking and I've started to identify what I really need to step up my game! My life would be about 1,000 times better if I had a second bowl for my KitchenAid mixer, instead I find myself doing dishes while baking-and I am NOT about that life. Also, my desire to bake macarons at home has reached a fever pitch and I'm dying for this Lekue Macaron Kit

Monday Must-Haves: White Wine

I've always been a Pinot Noir drinker through and through, but over the past few months I've been reaching for Chardonnay when grabbing a bottle either for myself or as a gift. Due to my previous incarnation as a red drinker, my wedding registry consisted only of stemless Riedel glasses intended for cabernet and merlot. I've since learned that a glass of white should always be held by the stem to ensure that your hand does not warm the bowl of the glass. Ideally served at 58-62 degrees, a glass of white is much more delicate than a hearty red. All this taken into account tells me that it's about time to invest in a collection of stemmed white glasses, we've been drinking from two free glasses earned in a wine tasting. I'm having a really hard time deciding which are perfect for us, so I pulled a few favorites . .

Monday Must-Haves-Target Spotlight

It's safe to say that I always have an item or two in my Target online shopping cart, and their Spring 2014 Nate Berkus and Threshold Collections are looking SO right! I'm still on the hunt for pillows and they have a few really solid options that I'm considering!

Monday Must-Haves-Tech Turn Up

I have been dying for this FujiFilm Instax camera for a few weeks now! Since my introduction to Instagram, I've become obsessed with taking pictures, and this instant camera just went to the top of my bday list! My husband and  I have also noticed a few other areas where we are lacking in the electronics department, namely our lack of phone speakers and me not owning a computer!

Monday Must-Haves: Throw Down

Throwing Down

It is high time that I grab some cute, decorative pillows for my couch. Last New Year's, I hosted a party and ran to Home Goods 3 days before where I bought new curtains, candles, pillows, and misc. decorative objects to add a feeling of "done-ness" to the apartment. I grabbed two pale blue over sized pillows with black trim to make the couch seem more inviting, but I've wanted to replace them almost as long as I've had them. I do have a couple problems though with replacing my pillows. First of all, my dogs LOVE sleeping on these pillows, they're filled with down feathers and are very squashy and cuddly. Secondly, Pig has been known to shred her previous dog beds, and I'm concerned that she will attack any new pillows that I bring in. So my plan is to start small and bring in a couple, inexpensive pillows at a time and see how it goes!

Monday Must-Haves: Mellow Yellow

Anyone who knows me, knows that I HATE yellow, but something is happening with me. I've been noticing pops of it throughout my house and I kind of like it! If we want to get all psychological here, it's likely because it's been freezing and dreary and I'm looking forward to Spring! I decided to pull together some more yellow inspiration to get me through the remaining cold winter weeks!

Monday Must-Haves: Inspired Additions

Last night I made my weekly trip to Barnes and Noble and picked up Remix: Decorating with Culture, Objects, and Soul by Jeanine Hayes & Bryan Mason-writers of the blog AphroChic. Their book really got me thinking about adding more bold, natural, and culturally aware elements to my home and I scrapped my original plan for this week's Must-Haves and sought out some elements that I feel fit in with their aesthetic. Also, I just love this book, so if you are looking for some inspiration and are working with a limited budget or mindset, I highly recommend it!
